A DISCOURSE PERSPECTIVE TO SUBORDINATION

During the recent decades, clause-combining in spoken and written
discourse has attracted an increasing number of linguists. This interest in clausecombining
and in the areas related to coordination and subordination has been
explored by linguists representing different research traditions : typologists,
functional linguists and scholars of discourse and grammar in interaction, and by
cognitive linguists.1 Most approaches to clause combining and subordination during
the recent years have advocated the idea of a continuum of clause-linkage types or
the idea of subordination as a prototypical category. According to these views,
subordination does not present itself as a strictly definable or clear
