Abstract This paper explains how language is used as knowledge and communication in the light of cultural phenomena in the Beti culture, more specifically, the relation existing between Beti people and nature, cultural realities as lived in forests and villages, and fusion with nature. It also explains why the European foreigners wrongly categorized the Beti ethnic group as a non hierarchical society, thus causing prejudices and misunderstandings about the Beti culture.
