Considerable analysis has been undertaken into assessing what
broadly can be described as "the Study of Europe" in the United
States. Most notable in these assessments is the Makins Report,
commissioned by the German Marshall Fund of the United States
and the Delegation of the European Commission in the United

relatively better health compared to many other scholarly areas of
