I Presentation of Cameroon Gatsby foundation
Cameroon Gatsby Foundation (CGF) is a charitable Foundation operating in
Cameroon and contributing in the fight against poverty by promoting Women’s
micro-enterprises through their self-help groups.
CGF is one of four NGOs initiated in Africa and supported by the Sainsbury
Family Trusts in UK. The other African Trusts are operating in Kenya,
Tanzania and Uganda.
CGF, like all the African Trusts has designed poverty alleviation strategies
targeting the poor with a mission of empower low income Women to help
themselves and their families out of poverty through the provision of micro
finance and business development services.
In Cameroon, the Trustees of CGF decided to pay particular attention to
Women because of the importance of their role in the welfare of the family and
mankind in general. We decided that efforts to alleviate poverty must include
support of the income generating activities carried out by Women who
constitute over 50% of our population but who, for the most part are allowed to
fend for themselves. We therefore went out to design a mechanism to promote
the economic activities carried out by Women
