ORGANISATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED
The mainland of Norway covers approximately 324 000 km2 with a
population of about 4.3 millions. Large areas of the country are sparsely
populated or virtually unpopulated. About 3 % of the land is cultivated, 20 %
productive forest area and the remainder is for a large part mountainous
areas. The island group of Spitsbergen and the island of Jan Mayen, and the
Antarctic dependencies, are not included in these figures.
According to the latest available official statistics l, there are about
170.000 hunters in Norway. 10 % of the male population over 16 years paid
the hunter's fee and are, accordingly, registered as hunters, while only 3 % of
