OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE DOCUMENTATION OF THE CONTEMPORARY BY ANIMATED FILMS.



This paper deals with recreating and reconstructing "artificial" visual
documentary in more or less true ways, according to the aims and morality of
the documentarist. In the age of hyper-realistic creations of virtual images, it
may be an almost less adulterated act to draw or artificially generate the images,
and even to manifest one's own subjective interpretation of a real contemporary
issue. We shall therefore focus mostly on the reasons that may induce a
filmmaker to recur to animation techniques and languages in order to document
real events. From this point of view a few cases of animated documentary are
here taken into consideration.
In the last few years, among the converging media and forms of expression
that have been upsetting the traditional categories, animated cinema and
documentary film are definitely merging into what is already commonly defined
as animated documentary. Fusion between two apparently opposite forms of
cinema, according to commonplac
