1. Introduction Recent global changes (migration, globalisation, transnationalism) have led to increasing diversification in European societies (Vertovec 2006), including Finland. The cultural and social super-diversity of societies previously characterized as homogeneous has brought about different perceptions and constructions of participation, identity and societal membership, and ultimately, forms of integration.
