VODOU ET IDENTITÉ DANS UN RÉCIT ORAL HAÏTIEN
Par Liliane Dévieux
Abstract:
Through voodooist characters, this story states a connexion between
voodoo and national identity and suggests that there is an impact of this
religion on two other levels of identity: social identity and personal
identity. However, a freemason character has a new vision of Haitian
identity.
Entitled "Les contrats avec des lwa maléfiques" ("Contracts whith bad
gods"), that mythic story from Port-au-Prince, has been recorded on video
in Montreal, in 1985 (Projet "Conte et migration" ("Tales and migration"
Project), Caribean Research Center, University of Montreal). This article
includes transcription of a selection from the recorded story
